Optimality in Self-Organized Molecular Sorting

چکیده
We introduce a simple physical picture to explain the process of molecular sorting, whereby specific proteins are concentrated and distilled into submicrometric lipid vesicles in eukaryotic cells. To this purpose, we formulate model based on coupling spontaneous aggregation with vesicle nucleation. Its implications studied by means phenomenological theory describing diffusion molecules towards multiple sorting centers that grow due molecule absorption extracted when they reach sufficiently large size. The predictions compared numerical simulations lattice-gas realization experimental observations. efficiency distillation is found be optimal for intermediate rates, where density sorted minimal obeys scaling laws. Self-organized sorting limits behavioral variability in swarms
Swarming is a phenomenon where collective motion arises from simple local interactions between typically identical individuals. Here, we investigate the effects of variability in behavior among the agents in finite swarms with both alignment and cohesive interactions. We show that swarming is abolished above a critical fraction of non-aligners who do not participate in alignment. In certain reg...
متن کاملDisproportionation and self-sorting in molecular encapsulation
Self-assembled capsules are nanoscale structures made up of multiple synthetic subunits held together by weak intermolecular forces. They act as host structures that can completely surround small molecule guests of the appropriate size, shape and chemical surface. Like their biological counterparts, multimeric enzymes and receptors, the subunits of the capsules are generally identical, and lead...
متن کاملSelf-organized interconnect method for molecular devices.
Lack of an appropriate method for wiring molecules that have controlled functions and structures has been a barrier for the development of molecular devices. We developed an interconnect method to program three kinds of component molecules with their own functions and to wire a molecular device in a self-organized manner. By using the interconnect method we developed, we produced conductive wir...
متن کاملTime-scale and noise optimality in self-organized critical adaptive networks.
Recent studies have shown that adaptive networks driven by simple local rules can organize into "critical" global steady states, providing another framework for self-organized criticality (SOC). We focus on the important convergence to criticality and show that noise and time-scale optimality are reached at finite values. This is in sharp contrast to the previously believed optimal zero noise a...
متن کاملNanotechnology approaches to self-organized bio-molecular devices
In this paper we brie.y describe new strategies to exploit self-assembled solid-state biomolecular materials as active elements of electronic devices. Two basically di1erent approaches are proposed: a top-down approach, where biomolecular semiconductors consisting of DNA basis are self-organized and interconnected by planar metallic nanopatterns, and a bottom-up approach, where single or ordere...
